startsocial winners recognised in the Federal Chancellery
The startsocial competition, one of our Made for Good flagships in Germany, culminates every year with the award ceremony in the Federal Chancellery. On June 3, Angela Merkel – patron of the competition – invited the most promising initiatives to celebrate their deserved success in Berlin.
The 2018/2019 round received applications from more than 230 social startups, charities and initiatives. Of these, 100 were chosen for a four-month coaching scholarship to further develop their ideas or organisation together with experienced experts and leaders – among them 19 Deutsche Bank employees. 25 finalists were invited to Berlin, where seven of them were highlighted for their outstanding commitment.
Karl von Rohr, President and Chief Administrative Officer of Deutsche Bank, highlighted the need for respect and human rights and applauded Menschenzauber for bringing magic moments back to the lives of terminally ill or otherwise challenged people.
Chancellor Merkel presented her special award to “Electricians without borders” who bring renewable energy to the poorest regions of the world, thus improving access to education, health services and enabling local communities to prosper.
Deutsche Bank has been one of the main partners of startsocial since 2012. Our colleagues have since supported more than 1,200 social initiatives as jurors or coaches to improve or scale their business concepts. Many of the finalists and winners have since become partners of our CSR programme: “Start with a Friend” (prize winner 2015/2016) and “Über den Tellerrand” (finalist 2015/16). Both of these initiatives promote open-mindedness and exchanges between cultures and have helped support our pledge to engage 1,000 Deutsche Bank employees as integration coaches.
Social startups, charities or initiatives are invited to apply for coaching scholarships in the 2019/2020 startsocial competition. The deadline is July 7, 2019.
